Suwannee CI Release Paths
Suwannee Correctional Institution is an adult male state prison operated by the Florida Department of Corrections. It is not part of Suwannee County Jail. The sheriff's SmartWEB system does not index a prison discharge just because the institution stands in Suwannee County. State prisoners may have been sentenced in any Florida county and housed at several FDC locations during one term.
A person can leave the main institution through transfer to the Annex, another FDC prison, a hospital unit, or a community-release setting while remaining in FDC legal custody. A true prison release can be sentence expiration, parole, conditional release, or another lawful discharge route. Physical departure may be followed by state supervision. The public evidence therefore needs more than a location change. Look for a past release date and final date out of custody in FDC's release detail, then check the supervision database.
| Observed event | Correct reading | Next source |
|---|---|---|
| New FDC institution | Transfer within state custody | Current population detail |
| Past Release Date and final Date Out-Custody | State prison custody ended | Inmate Release detail |
| Active supervision after release | In community under an FDC term, subject to record status | Supervised Population |
| Future Current Release Date | Projection that may change | Population detail and records unit |
Confirm Suwannee CI Release
Open the FDC Corrections Offender Network and select Inmate Release Information Search. This dedicated database covers people released or scheduled for release from FDC and is updated nightly. It is different from the current Inmate Population search. It also excludes people whose only custody was a county jail.
- Search by the six-character DC number when known. Otherwise use last and first name, with alias searching when useful.
- Open a candidate only after matching photo, birth date, sentence county, case number, and other identity details.
- Read the Release Date and Incarceration History. A past date plus a final Date Out-Custody is stronger than a list hit alone.
- Reuse the same DC number in Supervised Population to see whether state supervision follows release.
- Ask FDC's Bureau of Admission and Release for clarification when dates, transfers, or release type remain unclear.
The release database includes people scheduled for a future release. A name appearing there does not prove that release has occurred. The detail can also show the photograph, DC number, aliases, custody, prison sentence history, offenses, sentence dates, counties, case numbers, and dates in and out of custody. FDC warns that its data can change quickly.
Suwannee CI Release Fields
FDC's labels should be kept exact. The released-person record uses Release Date and the incarceration history's Date Out-Custody. A current population detail uses Current Release Date. Florida Statute § 944.275 calls the underlying gain-time calculation the tentative release date. The public label and the statute's term describe related information, but they should not be collapsed into a promise.
- DC number
- FDC's main identifier, numeric or one letter followed by five digits.
- Release Date
- A past or scheduled FDC release date shown in the release database.
- Date Out-Custody
- The incarceration-history date marking the end of that custody interval.
- Current Release Date
- A future public projection on a current population record.
- Supervision
- A community term that can continue after prison release.
Gain-time can move the tentative date as awards are granted, forfeited, or restored. Court-awarded time already spent in custody, corrected commitment data, a new sentence, mandatory minimums, court action, and administrative recalculation can also change the projection. For covered modern sentences, § 944.275 provides an 85-percent floor, with statutory limits and exceptions. It is not a rule that each prisoner simply receives 15 percent off.
Note: A life record may show “SENTENCED TO LIFE” rather than a calendar release projection.
Suwannee CI Release Supervision
Prison release and discharge from supervision are separate events. FDC's Supervised Population Search can show state probation, parole, conditional release, and other FDC supervision. It accepts a DC number or name and uses the same identifier that links prison and release records. A detail may show supervision begin date, current location, status, supervision type, scheduled termination date, aliases, and supervision history.
ACTIVE means active community supervision. ACTIVE SUSPENSE can mean the person is temporarily unavailable for direct supervision because of jail or another facility while FDC tracks the status. It is not proof that the person is in the community. ABSCONDER means the person's whereabouts are unavailable to supervision and a violation warrant has issued. Those later status terms should not be rewritten as the original release method.
An empty supervision result does not reverse a valid release record. The term may have ended, never applied, or require a corrected identity search. For county probation, the statewide FDC public search may not be the right source. The sentencing order and supervising office remain important.
Suwannee CI Release Records
When public search fields do not answer the question, contact the Bureau of Admission and Release at 850-488-9167 or dc.release@fdc.myflorida.com. Identify the DC number, person, institution, relevant date range, and exact record type. A focused request can seek the release date and type, institution history, sentence or release calculation, and nonexempt release documentation. For public-search identity or classification questions, FDC lists Bureau of Classification and Central Records at 850-488-9859.

FDC's public-records channel is the formal route for records not supplied by the search. The request should ask for existing records, not an agency-created narrative. Florida § 119.07 permits inspection and copies subject to exemptions, redaction, and lawful charges. If a Suwannee criminal case is relevant, obtain the court judgment from the sentencing county's clerk. The Suwannee Sheriff cannot certify an FDC discharge it did not execute.
Suwannee CI Complex Identity
The official Suwannee Correctional Institution listing identifies the main institution at the Highway 90 complex. FDC's historical PREA materials state that the complex opened in 2009 and included main, Annex, and work-camp components. Current FDC pages separate the main institution from the Annex, so facility identity should be recorded exactly when a location or release record is requested.
The official facility screen shows the institution identity and marks the Work Camp Temporarily Closed. That page can be reviewed at its FDC source.
The listing confirms which FDC unit is being discussed. It does not replace the statewide release database for a named person's custody outcome.
A work-camp reference in an older sentence or custody history should not be presented as a separate active release site without current proof. A move between the main unit and Annex is generally a custody-location change, not a release from FDC. Ask for institution history if the exact unit matters.
Suwannee CI Facility History
The state-prison complex forms one part of Suwannee County's much longer confinement history. County history also describes a courthouse-grounds jail built in 1869 and a 1938 jail used for more than 55 years. Those county jails are not predecessors in FDC's state-prison record system, but the contrast helps separate local jail archives from modern state prison records.
Suwannee CI and its Annex share a published address, yet FDC gives each a separate institution page. The main unit record should use the main-unit facility identity. Annex records should use the Annex name. Release verification remains statewide for both. Geography does not move either prison into the sheriff's roster.
For a person thought to have returned to Suwannee County after FDC release, the release detail proves the end of state prison custody. Supervised Population can identify an active state supervision term and current location. The county jail portal answers only whether a separate local booking exists. Keeping these events separate prevents a transfer or later arrest from being mistaken for the original prison discharge.
Institution history can also span several FDC locations. The sentence history identifies the court case and term, while incarceration history supplies the dates in and out of custody. A current location field answers where FDC reports the person now. It does not explain every prior move. If the sequence among the main unit, Annex, and another prison matters, request the institution or transfer history by DC number rather than inferring it from one current screen.
Use the same care with release and supervision dates. The prison release date ends the custody interval shown by FDC. A scheduled supervision termination date concerns a later community term and may change. Final discharge should be supported by the supervision record or controlling order, not assumed from the passage of the projected date.
